“On 01.01.2016 we left the festival and went back to Wanaka, where we ended up sleeping all day…”
When our bodies felt well rested we had some actual time to explore Wanaka. It’s a small atmospheric town right on the lake side with some pretty neat pubs and restaurants.
The most famous sight in Wanaka is surprisingly a lone tree, growing in the lake. It is by far the most photographed tree in New Zealand. Arriving there, a bunch of other photographers already set up their tripods.
For sunset I did a colourful landscape shot as a long exposure. It was a little bit windy, that’s why I couldn’t get a perfect reflection of the tree.
It took quite a while until the photographers left and we were finally able to get closer to the tree, without disturbing others. Being alone at this place, changed our mood and the one of the landscape. Too many people around take the value of nature and may let you forget its calm beauty.
