Well, the headline sounds a bit more dramatic than it was but it is still true.
Visiting the Tongariro national park, we rent ourselves a couple of boards and went to Mt Ruapehu, an active volcano.
Due to Milena’s missing snowboard experience we started off in “Happy Valley” with a decline of 2°, the huge and spectacular mountain in front of us. After a few hours of falling and getting up we tried to ride on the “real” mountain.
The first fear Milena had to face, was to get out of the lift. For most people the lift is to relax and calm down but for her the lift was the challenging part. I captured one of the rare moments where she seemed to have fun on the lift :P.
On top of the mountain was, where she gained practice the next days. Overall Milena learned very fast, so that we were able to do some serious snowboarding in the end. Sadly “Après ski” is not known like in the alps, so we had no party time after a hard days work.
Even though we spent most of the time on the mountain, we had some hours to walk in the beautiful nature. We visited two waterfalls, with unbelievably clear and blue water. It is always fun to walk along the streams and be on the edge of the falls.
