Sometimes spontaneous decisions are the best ones.
Driving over the scenic “Lindis Pass” the idea to climb one of the mountains around us, seemed quite adventurous.
Without a trail or a path we made our way up. With every meter our car got smaller and smaller and the view more spectacular.
Close to the top, the road seemed like a snake winding through the mountains. This appearance made me think of a car trail photograph. When we found a good and safe position, I started with two correctly exposed “main shots”. One for the foreground landscape and another one for the sky.
Then I had to wait until it became darker, but still bright enough to find the way down again. When the cars started using their headlights, I took multiple long exposures of the car trails until every part of road was covered. As soon as I was done we went, with little light, back to the car.
Later I blended all 16 exposures together in Photoshop to create the final image.
Moreover I adjusted colours/contrast and did some sharpening.
