After some pretty long flights, we finally arrived in Auckland where, to our suprise, everything went uncomplicated. We even got to our hostel 2 hours early and had to wait for the manager.
It’s incredible how easy-going the people in the familar “Brown Kiwi” hostel are. Even when getting up at 6:30 in the morning (due to the jetlag) they were cooking, watching tv and making jokes. It feels like a huge family with new members every day.
Yesterday we finally met Steve, a guy who prepairs and sells cars/vans to backpackers. We got in contact to him through “Kiwi quest”, a website from and for German backpackers.
Later, in Manukau, he showed us our new car, a Honda Odyssee V6. Which we bought with a good and at the same time unlikely feeling. It’s difficult to trust the dealer and the car and get out of it with a great feeling. Nevertheless we decided to forget about the “what ifs” and accept our new travel member “Den”.
We still can’t believe that we made it back to our hostel while rush hour in Auckland and the fact that it was the first trip driving on the left. But here we are unhurt and happy to own “Den the Van”.
